NixOS is a Independent-family Linux distribution based on Independent. The declarative, reproducible revolution — configure your entire operating system in a single text file.
Strengths: One `configuration.nix` file replicates your exact OS setup across any number of computers; Every single upgrade creates a new generation you can boot into if anything breaks; Nixpkgs has surpassed Arch and Debian as the largest package repository in existence. Trade-offs: Nix expression language has a steep initial learning curve; Non-standard filesystem hierarchy (/nix/store) breaks pre-compiled binary assumptions (FHS).
